Your Community, Your Story
This blog isn’t about one person’s view of the issues affecting Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia region. It’s about the entire community.
You are a part of that community whether you live in Andorra or Abington, Fishtown or Fairless Hills, Roxborough or Radnor.
You are a part of that community if you are a former Philadelphian living in a new place having left behind friends, relatives or just fond memories.
You are a part of that community if you care about the future of Philly and we want you to share your stories and thoughts about this city.
So whether you’re old enough to remember Wilt Chamberlain average 50 points per game or you weren’t yet born when the last Philadelphia sports team won a championship, we want to hear from you.
You can write as much or as little as you want – once a month, once a week, once a day. We’ll provide you guidance and editorial suggestions to ensure that your product will be as polished and professional as possible. If you are interested, we’ll also work with you to develop your ability to use video, audio and photos to tell your story and provide your commentary.
Best of all, you’ll be part of a growing community of caring, dedicated Philadelphians who are partnering up with WHYY and the Philadelphia Daily News to help shape the collective vision for the future of this city and region.
Send an email to d p o h l i g @ w h y y . o r g and I’ll send you detailed instructions on how you can become a contributor to this blog.
What we’re looking for
Basically, we’re looking for anyone who has ever seen anything negative in their community and wondered, “why is that happening? what can be done?” Or has seen good things happening in other cities and wondered, “why can’t we do that here?”
We’d like for you to be willing to share your identity with your readers so they can become connected to you and the voice that you are bringing to the conversations. If your employer or other circumstances make that impossible, we could discuss the idea of using a pseudonym. Your work will be edited and fact checked but for the most part you will be free to express your opinion and offer solutions for the city’s issues.
Become a part of the community. Email me at the address above and let’s get started!
